We helped AusCycling unify their event and content ops with a multi-site CMS.

AusCycling were relying on a range of tools to manage their many websites, making it hard to run their marketing operations efficiently and consistently. We led the move to a multi-site headless CMS and token-powered front-end architecture so they could publish at speed and support diverse brands and audiences from one system.

A single source of truth for content

Previously, AusCycling relied on a range of disconnected web publishing services to manage their many web and event sites. With content and assets spread across so many surfaces, they found it hard to keep content fresh, and ensure consistency across their many web surfaces.

We designed a solution that would allow AusCycling to publish to multiple sites from one unified system. Content, assets, and event information flow easily between different hubs and sites, reducing duplication and streamlining the publishing process. As new features are added, the platform becomes even more efficient, letting the team focus on creating and sharing great stories.

Thinkmill helped us make sense of an extremely complex website environment and a growing volume of content. They quickly understood our challenges and challenged our thinking in the right way. They’re super easy to work with, and we’ve loved having a consistent team that truly operates as an extension of our own.

Flexible theming for brand diversity

AusCycling’s network of event hubs and content sites serves diverse audiences and brands. We established a token-powered UI architecture to make launching new web properties simple and scalable. Editors can configure background, text, and accent colours, as well as brand fonts, so every hub looks unique and on-brand — without the need for custom design on each launch.

Tailored publishing for editorial efficiency

AusCycling’s Media department needed more than a standard CMS. We partnered with their editors to shape a content authoring and page-building experience that fit their publishing workflow.

Leveraging Payload CMS, we developed a system where editors can create engaging pages using flexible building blocks designed to fit their unique content requirements. The result is an editorial experience that empowers creativity while ensuring consistency and speed.

Seamless integration with external event systems

Live events are at the heart of AusCycling’s community. To keep fans and participants up to date, we enabled robust support for third-party API integrations, connecting the platform with external systems to display real-time event data and schedules. Local clubs can also publish their own events directly to AusCycling sites, ensuring activity from every level of the sport is visible and current.

A digital platform ready for Paris and beyond

We launched the new platform on schedule for the Paris 2024 Olympics, giving AusCycling the tools they needed for real-time coverage and major national exposure during one of the sport’s biggest moments.

AusCycling now has a digital home as dynamic as their community. Editors can launch new sites in minutes, tailor them to different events and audiences, and deliver rich content without requiring developer intervention. Integration with external systems means riders and fans stay informed, while the scalable architecture ensures the platform grows with the sport.
